we both(alex and i) almost died twice on the trip ...and not just a simple little someone hit me with their car or i fell off a ladder story. They are intensely crazy and unreal scenarios that really did surprisingly happen
The first incident : Wilderness Horseback riding in Cusco
alex and i rented these 2 horses for a couple hours. We were not supposed to be alone but alex insisted to the guy and since he is from the country, they didnt seem to mind. In south america, i notice they dont give a crap about you haha. Im surprised they didnt make us sign our lives away. My horse bonita was cute at first but all she wanted to do was stop and eat, stop and eat, oh and steer me near cliffs. Alex horse CRAZY, he just wanted to run as fast as he possibly could. like there was a race and the world was going to end. he also was a swerver, It was like these horses were on massive amounts of booze or drugs. they were not doing their jobs well at all. Towards the end of our ride, alexs horse took him on the ride of his life. it ran so fast, i couldnt see alex on the path anymore. And Once i noticed they were gone, i saw how narrow my path was. And in that moment i had to pray. I couldnt believe these stupid horses took us so close to these cliffs. they had to be at least 100 ft high. i couldnt even look to my side or down or else i would have had a panic attack. Finally we got off the path THANK god. but alex was so far ahead , i couldnt find him at first. And then luckily, i saw him walking with the horse by his side. Apparently, he thought the horse was gonna swerve off the cliff. so he jumped off of it. Hes lucky he made it in one piece. he had a few cuts but his panic attack was probably a lot worse or else he would not have jumped off the horse. Man i will never be able to forget those horses and how crazy the whole thing was. LOL. we made it though thank god
The second incident: Bullet ants in the jungle
alex and i went on some kind of tour in the jungle WIMBA tours and we had the worst tour guide. He thought it would be funny to tell us not to wear our boots on a certain part of the trip and later led us through an ant hill. We got at least 10 bites on our feet and it was the most agonizing, excruciating pain i have ever felt in my life. it literally feels like a gun shot . at first it feels like a tiny red any bite, then it turns into the feeling of a yellow jacket bite and then it hits harder. Oh god it was painful. Anyway, everyone was laughing, even the tour guide. But 10 mins later, they saw the severity of what we were suffering. Alexs body broke out into hives . I thought maybe he just had an allergic reaction. But then he started developing a fever. We were both rushed to the hospital in the middle of the jungle on a canoe. It was like a 20 minute ride on the amazon . not to mention it was pouring rain and we were both shivering., Once we got to the little hospital, the doctor wasnt even home. It took him almost a half hour to get to us while we were hovered underneath the building. He failed to bring his keys so he had to use a ladder to climb in and break into the hospital window. Finally, they gave him an injection and his side effects went away. I felt a little dizzy later on but i just disreguarded my symptoms because they were different and werent present right away like alexs. When we got off the plane, thats when i really started getting sick. I puked outside the airport endlessly. And once we got into a hostel, i ran right to the bathroom. for 2 days, i was puking and couldnt do anything. Im so happy we survived the whole thing. WHAT A CRAZY EXPERIENCE.

A hostel Peruvian Nitemare
Alex and i had been travelling for weeks now & after this one long bus ride (20-24 hours) we just wanted a nice place to sleep. We both werent thinking. it was 5 in the morning. The bus station was rather packed too. I dont know how these nimwits got a hold of us first. Anyway, all they had to do was talk to alex in their native spanish accents, show him a flyer, and give him the peruvian deal who by the way no one else gets. So they let you think! anyway, both our eyes were shutting so i guess it didnt seem like anything bad. We jumped for it because What do u know, they even had a ride for us :). All i remember from this hostel is bad things. And a word of advice for future travels for anyone is dont jump on the 1st offer, especially if the people seem desperate. I mean how desperate can u be waiting at a bus station at 5 in the morning begging people to take a room at their hostel.
Peru & the feeling of being in another country for the first time
peru was my first vacation i went solo. not to mention, it was my 1st time out of the country, let alone the continent. I took a plane from NYC to lima on nov 11 2013 and pretty much covered the whole country in one month. I didnt know one person could travel so far in such little time. The person i was meeting, i had never met before , not even on skype. we just talked everyday on facebook and on the phone sometimes. But i just knew this person was perfect for me. And he was. He was very respectful from the day i started talking to him so i knew everything would work out. I knew i wasnt going to peru to become kidnapped or raped. It just wasnt in the cards for me. Anyway, when i got off the plane, i panicked because it was my 1st time meeting him and no one really spoke english in that stupid airport. I was no nervous, i even got conned into getting an airport cell phone ,which i lost later on in my trip by the way. 20 dollars easily turned into 150. who knows, if i would have had more money in my account, they would have taken more. NEVER AGAIN will i listen to those people again. So after the panic subsided and i finally saw alex, we grabbed my mountian of S*iT luggage and got into the cab. (the cabs are quite unique in s. america ...lots of gadgets hanging on the dashboard, and lots of crosses) ..they are very decorated. ...Anyway, once in the cab , i couldnt believe my eyes staring out into the city, Woah it felt like fireworks were surrounding me.I did it i thought to myself. Im here. Im in freaking south american man. The guy Alex thought i was just nervous because i wasnt paying attention to him, that was only a little bit of that. i really was enthralled with being out in the world and seeing it for the first time.
The vision book that started it all MY travel dreams come true
It all started with my dream vision book. I have always wanted to see the world and all of the beauty it has to offer so about 2 years ago, i started strengthening my walk with jesus. (im a christian in case you didnt know) and he showed me these visions in which i cut out of magazines of just beautiful places and quotes and etc etc. I prayed and stared at the book everyday. Until one day, i decided im going to south america. But of course how can i do this i said to myself? Im a smoker, im just learning how to save money and barely holding on. Plus who could i travel with and how could i get there. i hadnt a clue. So i did some research and obsessed over going to brazil. I ended up hearing through word of mouth about a site called couchsurfing.org. the site is wonderful and highly recommendable by me and many others. I was very fortunate and met this guy alex on there and he was peruvian. we ended up making a plan to see eachother after we became pen pals . But the plans changed from brazil to peru. I didnt know such beauty existed but hey i went on a hunch and i trusted my gut and this guy. I started my own business casey cares cleaning, quit smoking and . i saved every penny almost for about a year and purchased the ticket sometime at the end of the summer 2013. My family were worried because i hadnt a clue who the guy was in person nor on skype. But i knew , i just knew it was the right thing to do. and no one could have stopped me. i was determined. So my first trip a dream trip come true was in november of last year NOV 11th 2013. And i stayed up until dec 5th 2013. there are no words from what i iexperienced but to jesus and to alex i am 4ever grateful. the whole trip opened up my eyes to more future travels. Praise jesus.
